It is with great pride that we announce Dr. Piotr Witkowski as one of the 2025 Honorary Members of the Polish American Medical Society.  Dr. Witkowski is a distinguished Professor of Surgery at the University of Chicago, where he serves as Director of the Pancreatic Islet Transplantation Program, the Transplant Surgery Fellowship Program, and the Polish-American Transplant Center.

A true pioneer in the field, Dr. Witkowski has advanced the science of islet transplantation, giving countless patients improved blood glucose control and freedom from insulin. His groundbreaking research on T regulatory cell therapy is shaping the future of transplant medicine by reducing the need for long-term anti-rejection drugs. His innovations continue to redefine possibilities in kidney, pancreas, and islet transplantation worldwide.

We are truly honored to recognize Dr. Witkowski’s achievements and lasting contributions to medicine and our community. His career reflects both remarkable scientific leadership and a deep commitment to supporting Polish-American collaboration in academic medicine.

You will have a special opportunity to meet Dr. Witkowski at the Polish American Physicians’ Charitable Ball on September 26th and to hear him share his insights with the next generation at the Polish-American Youth Academic Summit on September 27th, 2025.
