Polish-American
Medical Society Sections and Committees
The various sections and committees in our Society
have been active for many years. Each section is headed
by a chairperson and we are asking members of the Society
to join any sections that they would be interested in.
To allow each section and committee to function independently,
detailed guidelines are provided. The chairperson and
the members of each section and committee are encouraged
to provide their own input and initiative as much as
possible.
1. The Dental Section is headed by Dr. Dorothy Anasinski
who began coordinating meetings and lectures of the
Dental Study Club three years ago. This section is responsible
for organizing the May parade. The section helps dentists
preparing for licensure and gathers funds for scholarships
for dental students of Polish descent studying in the
Midwest region.
2. The Sports Section(KS Bronek) is chaired by Dr.
Orawiec and it was organized 14 years ago. This section
organizes our annual skiing and tennis competitions,
which are accompanied by medical lectures. This section
also organizes a skiing competition in the Alps every
March, during which lectures are presented as well.
Dr. Orawiec has been responsible for coordinating cholesterol
screenings and flu shots for the Polish community in
Chicago.
3. The Veterinary Section is headed by Dr. Adam Szpindor
and Dr. Andrzej Jaworowski. This section helps Polish
veterinarians prepare for exams and licensure and gathers
funds for veterinary students of Polish descent studying
in the Midwest region. This section has been organizing
our Society’s picnics for the last six years and the
silent auction for the last three years.
4. The non-practicing physicians section(Kolo Nowoprzybylych)
is compromised of residents and physicians who are not
practicing. Many of these doctors are preparing for
licensure exams and for residency. This section is responsible
for networking and helping each other prepare for exams
and obtain residency positions. A very extensive library
of educational materials including books, copies of
previous exams, Kaplan courses, and tapes are available
for the use of the members of this section and the library
is located at Dr. Anna Szpindor’s office at 1000 Lake
Street in Oak Park. Please call the office at 708-848-3393
to find out when you can pick up your materials. We
request that you leave either cash or a check equivalent
to the value of the materials borrowed. Once these study
aids are returned, the check or cash is given back to
the member of the section. Two physicians are in charge
of this section and currently this section is chaired
by Dr. Bryjak.
5. The Student Section comprises medical students studying
in the Midwest area. Many of the members of this section
have received scholarships from our Society. We are
currently looking for a medical student to chair this
section.
6. Ball 2006 and 60th Anniversary Organizing Committee:
This committee consists of approximately 30 members
who prepare everything for our annual ball. Additional
help is needed to organize a 2-3 day conference honoring
the 60th Anniversary of the Society, which will be taking
place from Friday until Sunday, February 10-12, 2006.
7. The Educational Committee is chaired by Dr. Radwanska
and is responsible for a dissemination of information
about our scholarships and reviewing scholarship applications.
The two scholarship funds include the Scholastic Scholarship
Fund for doctors from Poland and our Academic Scholarships
for medical, veterinary, and dental students of Polish
descent studying in the Midwest region are the priorities
of this committee. The committee also helps out with
CME lectures, as well as any other educational endeavors.
8. The Election Committee is chaired by Dr. Kubik and
this committee is responsible for a fair and democratic
election process, which takes place every two years.
Our next elections are on September 18, 2005.
9. The Picnic Committee comprises veterinarians and
the host of the picnic. Dr. Anna Szpindor has provided
the grounds surrounding her residence to be the site
of the picnic for 2003, 2004, and 2005.
10. The May Parade Committee is chaired by Dr. Migielska
and it is one of the responsibilities of the dental
section, as well as others. This committee takes care
of all of the preparations for the parade and is responsible
for recruiting as many members to attend the parade
as possible.
11. A Membership Committee is needed, which has not
been established as of yet to recruit new members, welcome
new members and update data on our members(current addresses,
telephone and fax numbers and e-mail).
Please review functions of each committee and section
and decide where you can help.
