The Polish American Medical Association had another
beautiful and successful Ball on February 12th,
2005. This marks the 55th year of this fundraising
event held for the first time at the Drake Grand
Ballroom. Every year, the Ball raises money for
the organization’s Academic Fund for local students
who will attend a medical, dental, or veterinary
school in Illinois. Scholarships are awarded between
$2000 and $5000 for students who excel academically,
participate in the Polish community, and have high
goals in their fields.
Parts of the benefits of the Ball are allotted
for other important efforts in the Polish community.
The Polish American Medical Association has been
supporting the creation of a new Center of Polish
Studies at Loyola University and will offer funds
this year towards creating an endowed professorship
at the university. With Chicago hosting one of
the largest Polish populations outside of Poland,
it is due time for such a Center to enhance the
knowledge of Polish culture, history and literature
here in the U.S. Barbara Miller was present and
thanked the Association for its ongoing support.
Dr. Anna Szpindor, President of the Polish American
Medical Association, also urged other organizations
to financially support this noble project.
